Welensky's other Federal Portfolios: The Ministry of Transport: Other Railways, 1953-1960

The Nyasaland Railways, and its associated companies in Mozambique, enjoyed a complex financial interdependency with both the Federal and Portuguese governments as shareholders and various financiers (including R.W. Rowland) interested in acquiring shares, influence, and control. The Benguela Railway in Angola was controlled by Tanganyika Concessions ('Tanks'), which was involved in the copper industry of the Congo, with the Portuguese authorities as minority shareholders.
