Also includes Betts's reply about his intention to prepare a condensed memorandum on the Western Regional case, for MPs of the Commonwealth Group of the Labour Party. A postscript in Betts's hand mentions an appointment for him to meet Awolowo.

Contains 'Foreign Policy for Independent Nigeria' (two copies, one with a cutting from The Times dated 13 Sep 1958 enclosed) and 'Freedom and Independence for Nigeria'.

Statements include (1) 'Crisis in Nigeria', and (2) 'The immediate task - a statement on the Nigerian political and constitutional crisis'.

Clipped to it are pencilled notes [by Hilda Selwyn-Clarke] headed 'Questions' (fols. 98-103).

The cables are (1) from Awolowo to the Secretary of State, and (2) in reply, from L.H. Goble, Acting Chief Secretary, about the future status of Lagos.

The letter concerns a Parliamentary Question put by Mrs White on why no invitation to attend the Constitutional Conference had been sent to the United National Party, and Lyttelton's reply. Attached is a statement by Mojekwu on the 'True Facts and Position'.
