Biographical / Historical

Sir Frederic Madden (1801-1873), Keeper of Manuscripts, British Museum, 1837-1866, was an antiquary and palaeographer. Details are given in the Dictionary of National Biography.

The manuscripts were purchased by Lord Brabourne at the L.L Hartley sale, 3 May 1886.
