Biographical / Historical

Thomas Frognall Dibdin (1776-1847) was Vicar of Exning, an antiquary and bibliographer. Details are given in the Dictionary of National Biography.

Custodial History

The collection is said by Puttick & Simpson to have been bound and given by Dibdin to Dawson Turner. Puttick & Simpson sold the collection in the Turner sale on the 6th June 1859, lot 114.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

The letters were bought from G.H. Last in 1917.
