Mohamed 'Mo' Amin was a Kenyan photojournalist who brought international attention to conflict, coups and humanitarian crises in Africa.

Born in 1943 in Nairobi, Amin's interest in photography grew during his school years, leading to the creation of his photography agency, Camerapix, in 1963.

Amin covered the Ethiopian famine in 1984 with the British journalist and newsreader Michael Buerk. Amin's photographs of the famine were published in newspapers across the globe, prompting the formation of the charity group Band Aid which lead to the iconic Live Aid concerts, raising vast amounts of money to support Ethiopia.

As well as photographing war and famine, Amin also covered state visits, coronations, pilgrimages, and safari car rallies.

Putting himself on the front line for many photography assignments, Amin lost his left arm in an ammunition dump explosion in Ethiopia in 1991 during the Ethiopian Civil War.

Amin died in November 1996 in a plane hijacking on a flight from Ethiopia to Nairobi. Amin confronted the hijackers but the plane crashed into the Indian Ocean, killing Amin and 125 crew and passengers.
