Photographs of the Skylab mission in 1973 taken by Captain Joseph Kerwin.

Biographical / Historical

Joseph Kerwin, an American physician, served as the Science Pilot for the Skylab 2 mission from 25 May to 22 June 1973. The mission established a 28 day record for human spaceflight duration.

Skylab was the first American orbital space station, launched by NASA on 14 May 1973 (Skylab 1) and occupied for around 24 weeks between May 1973 and February 1974 by three trios of astronauts (Skylab 2, 3 and 4). It re-entered Earth's atmosphere in July 1979, breaking up over the southern oceans and Western Australia.
