Biographical / Historical
Ivor Frederick Wentworth Schofield, CMG (Companion of the Order of St Michael and St George) (1957) ED (1943), was born on 5 Jul 1904. He was educated at King's School in Worcester and Hertford College, Oxford.
In 1927, Schofield joined the Colonial Administrative Service as a cadet in Nigeria, later serving as Resident (1949) and Administrative Officer, Staff Grade, in the Western Region (1954). In 1958, he was appointed Commissioner of the Inland Revenue in the Western Region; he retired in 1959 but was reĀengaged on contract until Dec 1960. Over the next ten years, Schofield worked in southern Cameroon as Administrator of Income Tax (1960-1961), and in the Gambia as Commissioner of Income Tax (1964-1966) and Adviser on Income Tax (1967-1970).
During World War II, he served with the Royal West African Frontier Force (1940-1942), and with the British Military Administration in Tripolitania (Libya) (1942-1943) and in Dodecanese (1943-1945).
Schofield died on 25 Sep 1979.
