Collection, part of a project on the Natal (KwaZulu-Natal) sugar industry, comprising photocopies of documents with a box of related microfilms and microfiche. The documents include papers of the Indian Immigration Commission, records of plantations, estates, and individual businesses, printed works, and reports, statistics, and other papers on labour, agriculture, and other related subjects. The originals are dated 1847-1979, though much of the printed material is undated.

These papers comprise the outcome of a research project into the Natal (KwaZulu-Natal) sugar industry, by a group of researchers at the Institute of Commonwealth Studies, Queen Elizabeth House, Oxford, funded by the Social Science Research Council.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

The papers were donated to the library by Dr Stanley Trapido, Institute of Commonwealth Studies, in Jul 1985.
