Biographical / Historical

Edward Charles (Toby) Ealey spent twenty years in Nigeria, 1955-1940 and 1946-1961, engaged in business and voluntary service. Among the posts he held were the following: Chairman of Lever Brothers (Nigeria) Ltd., Managing Director of the West African Soap Company, Ltd., Manager of United Africa Company, Lagos, and member of the Nigerian Railway Corporation. In Jan 1956, he was appointed a Special Member of the House of Representatives. He concerned himself with introducing an Accountancy Course at the Nigerian College of Arts, Science and Technology, for qualifications of the Association of Certified and Corporate Accountants (MSS. Afr. s. 1148/2, folder 7). Between 1958 and 1962, he played a leading part in the formation of the Youth Organisations Trust for Nigeria (MSS. Afr. s. 1148/2).
