Correspondence between Leslie Stanley and Dame Hildelith Cumming of Stanbrook Abbey
The archive comprises letters from Leslie Stanley to Dame Hildelith Cumming and corresponding responses written between 7 Apr 1964 and 31 Dec 1985. The letters are concerned mainly with books that had been or would be produced by the Stanbrook Abbey Press. Some of the letters were written of behalf of Dame Hildelith and two much later letters are an exchange between Leslie Stanley and 'Bob' from the United States of America.

Abstract

Biographical / Historical
Barbara Theresa Cumming (1909–1991) took the name of Hildelith when she became a Benedictine nun at the Stanbrook Abbey in 1941. She was resposible for the monastery's music and printing press. Further details of her life and work can be found in the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography.
Leslie Stanley (fl 1950-1980) was a supervisor of printing-block making at The Star Process Engraving Company in Manchester. He left the company in 1981 when it merged with another, Phoenix Engraving Company. He also provided printing blocks for the Stanbrook Abbey from the 1960s to the 1980s.
