The main topic, to which the enclosures relate, is the use that Lippert might make of his concession, and the possibility of buying it from him. Subsidiary topics in Taylor's letters are unofficial Boer treks to Mashonaland (Zimbabwe); Kruger's policy towards them and towards Swaziland (Eswatini); an interview between Jameson and Kruger arranged by Taylor through Nellmapius; and arrangements for Beit's forthcoming trip to Mashonaland (Zimbabwe). A further topic in Beit's letters is the possible purchase of the Wesselton diamond mine.

These letters, inserted in the old index in another hand, were bound out of sequence at the beginning of the volume, interspersed with copies of related letters from J.B. Taylor to Beit, also bound out of sequence, and numbered in 1983 'Enclosures A, B and C', since the existing foliation is obscure.
