Toby Low had family connections with Grindlays Bank dating from the mid-19th century. He became a Director of the bank in 1945, was Deputy Chairman, 1959-1964, and Chairman, 1964-1976. During this period Grindlays purchased Brandts Bank and established close links with Lloyds Bank and the First National City Bank of New York.
