Folders 1A, 1, and 2: General reviews; consisting of summaries of the year's activities in the Group's mines, inter-office correspondence, memoranda, and circularised letters from the Gold Producers' Committee of the Transvaal Chamber of Mines, and a few press cuttings. The papers deal with the state of the gold mining industry and market the earliest file concentrates on technical developments and labour problems; the others concentrate on the problems of ultra-deep mining, and the establishment of the Rand Mining Research Institute:

Folder 3: Printed and cyclostyled items, 1930-1948:
- (item 1) two cyclostyled memoranda on the importance of the industry to the communities of South Africa: composed of extracts from Chamber of Mines', government, and Central Mining proceedings (6 pp., 2 pp.), May 1930
- (items 2-4) printed Statements of Evidence (Nos. 1, 8, and 9) given by the Gold Producers' Committee to the Low-Grade Ore Commission, with annexed statistics of production and taxation, 13 Jan, 2 Sep 1931
- (item 5) The Journal of the South African Institution of Engineers, Vol. 43, No. 5, containing A.J. Walton's paper 'Some Problems of Deep Mining', and the subsequent discussions; accompanied by office covering note (23pp.), Apr-May 1945 [see also MSS. Brit. Emp. s. 412/25, folder 1, fols. 124-128]
- (items 6-7) two cyclostyled memoranda, each accompanied by 'Private' Johannesburg office covering notes: item 6 concerns financial relief for Deep Level Mining; and item 7 is a Chamber of Mines memorandum of the relationship between the municipalities and the mines (12 pp. and 22 pp.), 5 Feb 1948
- (item 8) cyclostyled report of special sub-committee set up by Gold Producers' Committee and headed by Dr Busschau: report and annexures concerned with the gold mining industry's problems and the producers' policy, with a copy of a personal covering letter from W.H.A. Lawrence to Robert Walker (61 pp. and Appendices 1-9), 30 Jul 1948.
