  4. (fol. 28) letter from J.C. Smuts to H.J. Stanley, inviting Chancellor to visit him, 20 Aug 1923
  5. (fols. 29-34) letter from Stanley to Newton, giving his views, based on his recollections of procedure in the Union [of South Africa], on what business would have to come before the Governor of Southern Rhodesia (Zimbabwe) in Executive Council, 24 Aug 1923
  6. (fols. 35-68) letter from Stanley to C.D. Douglas-Jones, Resident Commissioner, Salisbury (Harare), with copies of documents relating to the procedure at the assumption of office as Governor-General of South Africa by Lord Gladstone and his successors.
