About the departure of Buxton and their daughters; Buxton is in better spirits and supported by his faith and prayers, having heard that Lord Howick intended after all to move the amendment on 14 May. She writes that Priscilla is not in good health, owing to overwork, but they were very encouraged with the Cromer ladies' petition. She mentions a visit paid by Johnston and Macawley and adds that Stanley is believed to be getting nervous about the abolition issue, and had put off seeing the West Indian faction. She finishes by writing that Macawley and Dr Lushington want Buxton to return for fear the government is planning to make some changes to their abolition measure, but she hopes that he will have a little longer to rest, even though she does not have much confidence in the abilities of those remaining in London.
