(fols. 465-470) 'in the train near Irkutsk', describing visiting the Earl of Crewe, S/S Col., and discussing Nigerian railway, land and amalgamation matters, the improved status of West African Governor-Generals, and the probable amalgamation of East Africa and Uganda under Girouard; in addition to his own comments on these matters, Lugard mentions unanimous requests from Hong Kong communities that his Governorship be extended
(fols. 471-475) in Hong Kong, repeats conversation with Crewe, encloses and comments on Temple's letter (bound fols. 390-394), and describes their overland journey, and enthusiasm shown in Peking (Beijing) for the Hong Kong University project.
