Biographical / Historical

Maj. W. Catcheside, born 1916, son of a mining engineer. Educated at the Royal Grammar School, Newcastle, and Durham University; worked as an assistant chemist. Territorial Army, 1938; and obtained a commission with the Royal Artillery, 1940. Served in India, Germany, and Malaya (Malaysia), 1942-1951; with 1 Nigerian Regiment, 1955-1960; with Junior Leader's Regiment, Royal Artillery, UK, 1960-1964; Queen's Messenger, 1964.
