The N'gamiland expeditions, led by Colonel Naus, aimed to locate mineral resources. A syndicate, of which Rey was a Director, was formed in Cape Town with Hugh Tevis as Chairman. The first expedition took place in 1943, followed by the others in 1944. The final expedition 'failed owing to the breakdown of Naus's health and the outbreak of various diseases in the Bechuanaland Protectorate resulting in all movement being stopped by quarantine' (Rey, 1947, MSS. Brit. Emp. s. 384/5, folder 6, fol. 1).

- (fols. 9-12) preliminary report by C. Pingilly, Mining Engineer, to Tevis on the third expedition, with notes by him of a discussion between Naus, Dr Harger, geologist, and Pingilly, at Kai Kai on 25 Jun 1944, 7 Jul 1944
- (fols. 13-29) Pingilly's final report to Tevis on the third expedition, two copies, 14 Jul 1944
