Letters to his mother following her visit to Sarawak, 28 Jan 1933-17 Jul 1934
She had returned there with him in Oct 1931 after his leave, during which time his father had died. She stayed in Kuching until Mar 1933, when she returned to Edinburgh; she died in Jul 1934.
The letters are similar to those in MSS. Pac. s. 86/2, folder 1, and are concerned chiefly with personal and family matters and 'Kuching gossip'. There are references to the writing of a paper on the Law of Sarawak, possibly as a Dissertation for the degree of DCL, Oxford (fol. 19); there are many references to dissatisfaction with the administration of C.F.C. Macaskie, Government Secretary, and C.D. Adams, Acting Government Secretary. 75 letters.
