Noting that to abolish human sacrifice, slavery, and other practices in the area thus controlled, the Quakers would not subscribe to the project if they had to defend themselves in the settlement by force of arms; duties on African products could be minimised for a time; and without sovereignty and Government protection, they would never find anyone hardy enough to settle in Africa; and, finally, that if Britain did not gain sovereignty, other nations would seize it (two copies).
