A statement from Rev. William Fox on the state of slavery in St. Mary's, Gambia, with extracts from letters from him and from his journal written between May and Nov, together with a covering letter from Rev. J. Beecham, undated, explaining that this provided a more extensive account than the one he himself had presented to the Parliamentary Select Committee on the treatment of indigenous peoples, that he had taken Fox to the Colonial Office when in this country, where James Stephen gave him instructions to warn the authorities not to connive at slavery and followed it with a despatch that seemed to have had effect, 1836
