Forster and Smith to the Lords Commissioners for the Affairs of Trade about the scarcity of coffee from British plantations causing the British public to pay such a high tax that the price of coffee was double that paid on the continent, pleading for legislation during the current parliamentary session to ease the situation and that they consider the interests of the indigenous peoples of the west coast of Africa who were growing coffee that they themselves wished to import under a low rate of tax, 8 Apr 1839
