He states that he had £500 that he was willing to devote to founding a Native Agency and he thought he knew where more could be obtained. He asks whether the best thing would be to educate two Africans from Sierra Leone or elsewhere as schoolmasters and send them among their people. He assures him that he was equally convinced of the value of a Native Agency. Buxton was extremely annoyed that the model farm had been abandoned at such a promising stage because Lieutenant Webb did not have a surgeon to leave with them, but concludes that, incomprehensible though it might be, it was all part of the divine will in the end to benefit Africa. He rejoices in the good report received of the farm and urges him to have all he could remember written down and verified by Moore and Jones as he had learned how useful such a procedure in gathering evidence was when investigating prisons. He asks him to let him see King's journal or a copy of it. He too had decided to write to The Times in response to what they had printed about him on 26 Nov, with dignity and without giving way to temper or to retaliation, but that was not to stop him writing.
