He approves of the plans they were making for Trew's retirement and offers his support. He reports that Chenda had received a letter from Lushington's son, Edward, describing himself as very comfortably settled. He remarks that Peel's new tariff lowering the duties on timber, rice, etc., boded well for Africa. (Memoir, p. 536.) (Copy.)
