He informs him of Trotter's intention to reascend the Niger and this, given what he had already accomplished, involved consideration of what he called a 'National Undertaking'. He wished to see him about that and about Fernando Po (Bioko) and other matters connected with the suppression of the slave trade. He asks that the date fixed might be as near 1 Feb as possible. Finally, he congratulates the government on the signing of the five-power treaty. A note appended states that because of the announcement of the death of Bird Allen, this was not forwarded by Trew.
