He rejoices that Bird Allen had been able to join Trotter on the 'Albert', and observes that they would have had great cause for rejoicing if the expedition had not been scattered by the sickness that had struck it. He adds that they mourned those who had lost their lives but that they could not expect Africa to be regenerated without such losses. They hoped that the missionary societies might be stirred to provide missionaries for the expedition to introduce. He sends good wishes for a more comfortable and efficient second ascent of the Nun River and messages to the officers of the expedition, mentioning that their activities were the subject of general prayer in England.
