He was sending Trew's letter about the reasons for visiting the West Indies but wanted it returned immediately so that he could make a case for the visit to present to the Mico Trustees. He intended to be in London from 25 Jan to 10 Feb to attend a meeting of the Mico Trustees and keep other engagements. He comments on the distressing but also encouraging letters he had forwarded to him from Captain Cook and the tremendous gains made by the expedition though the cost in life was equally tremendous. He draws attention to Cook's statement that for vessels of their draft the river could be navigable all year round and claims that, in view of this, they could pour missionaries and teachers into Africa to do the work of 'civilization' for them.
