He encloses Trew's letter expressing willingness to go to the West Indies to further the interests of the Society there and gives his opinion that no one better could be found to undertake this necessary task because of his knowledge of the islands and their work there and because Trew was well known there. He reports that they had long discussed this matter and they were both convinced of its necessity. Six months would be needed by Trew for the work of their Society and of the Mico Charity, but the interests of the two societies would not conflict and they would share the cost. He itemises the cost to the African Civilization Society and declares that, in a monetary way, the Society should benefit from this visit. Trew was so convinced of this that he had offered to pay his own costs in the first instance, in the expectation that he would be reimbursed. The purpose of the visit was to raise funds for the African Civilization Society and to awaken interest in it and in the future of Africa among Black people in the West Indies, and the interest of their ministers of religion by providing information that they might disseminate.
