Edward Buxton to Buxton, referring to the committee meeting of the previous day and suggesting that perhaps he ought to come up to London for the next meeting on 5 Jan in order to consider what was to be done next, since the expedition's work should be followed up at once and this could not be done without his presence, 16 Dec 1841
He thinks Trew's visit to the West Indies should be postponed until after their decisions had been made about sending someone to Africa, and that the government should be urged to continue the effort to 'civilize' Africa. He suggests that it might be wise, for this reason, for Buxton to return to London in Feb, prepared to stay for some time.
