Buxton to Lord John Russell, requesting that he help them by obtaining a speedy reply to the enclosure in the letter from the Admiralty, 30 Jan 1841
He writes of his pleasure at hearing the previous day of Becroft's successful navigation of the Formosa branch of the river as far as 50 miles beyond Lander's earlier point of return at Fundah, and of his return to Fernando Po (Bioko) with the loss of only two men. He is inclined to take this as proof that the interior was less inclement than the coast. (Copy.)
