He mentions Joseph John Gurney's journey to the West Indies and the book he had written about it. He recalls the fears they had all had when the abolition of slavery was first debated, about the results of emancipation, which had been completely dissipated, and describes the comfort he experienced at the thought that all the corporal punishment endured by the enslaved people was ended and on hearing that the formerly diminishing population was now increasing. He reports that the Mico Charity had trained 265 Black people as schoolmasters. He also mentions the support accorded to the African project, his intention to go to London within a few days to see the vessels, and that the officers were going out in a missionary spirit. He informs him that the letter and his and Gurney's book would be delivered by Dr Lushington's son Edward and asks him to show him some kindness, describing the affection both he and Wilberforce had for his father. He reports on the condition and activities of members of his family, including the Cunninghams, and sends him his good wishes for the spread of Christianity in India. (Copy.)
