He expresses doubts about continuing with the ventilation system on the 'Soudan' until it was certain that the Admiralty would pay for it or, alternatively, until they were sure that unless they did it themselves it would not be completed in time. He writes that the journal should be made to pay its way and asks whether this had been made known generally to the branches of the Society. He reports that all but seven of the copies he had requested had been disposed of to friends, who would henceforth pay for their own copies directly. He mentions that Trew would pass on the letter from Porter about seed, that he had heard from Pyne, and that the government was allowing the Ashanti princes £100 p.a. each. He recommends Rev. R.E. Hankinson who had offered to circulate 2,000 copies of their journal. (Copy.)
