Buxton to Lord John Russell, about the Agricultural Association's plan to launch a small model farm on the Niger and their raising a sum sufficient to send out an overseer competent to select a site and run the farm with the aid of ten Black workers from the Gold Coast (Ghana) or Sierra Leone, 17 Dec 1840
Any profit from the produce would go to the African Civilization Society, though profit was unlikely at this stage. He requests space in the 'Harriet', the vessel scheduled to carry the expedition's stores, for the seed and agricultural implements, and free passage for their agent and for the indigenous people they would transport, and delivery of all to the site selected. Trotter was agreeable to this plan. (Draft).
