Priscilla Johnston to Anna Gurney, about their total defeat by the Chartists, describing it as one of the most painful scenes she had ever seen, 19 Nov 1840
She had asked Catherine Buxton to get hold of Katherine Fry's letter and copy part of it so that Anna might have an account of the meeting for this book, and she hoped to obtain from Catherine Hoare a description of the meeting by Francis Cunningham as sent to Hankinson (see pp. 37-43d). Should they hold another meeting the following week, with tickets, Buxton would have to delay his journey to London, but he was not as disappointed and tired as Joseph John Gurney seemed to be.
