Patriot, letter from Sir Thomas Fowell Buxton to Rev. R.R. Gurley, Secretary of the American Colonization Society, about the differences in principle and methods between that society and the African Civilization Society, 9 Oct 1840
He gives his reasons for considering the American Society wrong in its aims, the compromises it was prepared to accept and the methods verging on coercion used to persuade free African Americans to emigrate to Liberia, while ignoring the miseries of the enslaved African Americans in other parts of the United States. Also includes an editorial comment on the letter.
