He suggests that since he would be in London from 6-16 Oct, it would be a suitable time for his uncle to visit him there and then continue to Northrepps, tempting him with the promise of whitebait caught locally. He mentions that Edward was not well and had gone to Leamington instead of visiting them in Norfolk and that he himself was using a pony to carry him on his shooting expeditions, one that ate bread and cheese and liked beer, judiciously preferring their own brew of porter.
