He mentions that he had not been well since his return, attributes this to pressure of work but says that everything connected with the slave trade was progressing well and that the expedition would leave in Nov. He explains that so far, he had had only one day's shooting because he had been busy with buying an estate and planning the improvements for it. He writes that they had brought all their cargo home with them, dogs, and partridges, and that Spinks was living a life of ease following his Italian adventures. He explains that he had had some difficulty in obtaining the rings for carrying caps for Aubin's guns but would be sending them shortly, together with two cases invented that year, which he himself had been trying out and with which he was pleased. He tells him that he has reported to Lord Palmerston on how well Aubin had managed the matter of the Papal Bull and finally thanks him for his kindness when they were in Rome and for the sport with which he had provided him there.
