Before then, he needed to find an account of an Englishman carried into slavery in Barbary (North Africa) to prove that the testator of the legacy was moved to compassion for the enslaved people in Morocco in about 1702, that the state of enslaved people in Morocco then resembled that of enslaved people in the West Indies at the same time, and that efforts of conversion to Islam were made in Morocco and that it excited feeling in England. He believed that such proof could be found in the library of the British Museum or the Geographical Society but, though she was perfect for the task, he did not know whether she would be able to get into the British Museum Library. They had been offered the loan of any books they required from the Geographical Society, and he suggests that Richards might carry out the other search under her direction, adding that he had already asked McQueen to do some of the work. He reminds her that some £100,000 was at stake and mentions that he was attending a meeting of the Mico Charity that afternoon.
