She describes a party given by Samuel Gurney at Upton to which the American Delegates were invited, comprising 60 at dinner and more later in the evening. She comments on the vulgarity of the Americans compared with the aristocrats who also attended and the way in which Samuel Gurney and Elizabeth Fry formed a bridge between them. She also records the speeches given by Gurney and Garrison, in which Buxton's pamphlet on anticolonisation was described as a thunderbolt, and Buxton's speech in reply. Finally, she reports that their letters from Splugen had just arrived and they were all very stirred by them and that Aunt Forster intended to accompany Anna to Northrepps after she had been to Brick Lane.
