Naming the captains as H.D. Trotter, William Allen, and Bird Allen, and asking that William Bowden RN (Royal Navy) should be named as Secretary to the expedition and Rev. Miller as chaplain. The Bishop of London was prepared to ordain Miller, who had lived in Africa and could speak Arabic; Buxton describes him as a foreigner. He also asks that a surveyor accompany the expedition, saying that there was still time for one with the proper qualifications to be obtained from America or the West Indies. He reminds him of his consent for the Ashanti princes to accompany the expedition and be presented to the Queen. He informs him that Pyne had estimated that the sum allowed for their tour of England was likely to be £100-£150 short and suggests that the government might be willing to make good this deficit. He reminds him that he had asked for a time to be fixed to discuss the subject of sovereignty over the lands voluntarily ceded to them in Africa. Finally, he outlines the case of Dr Madden, Superintendent of Liberated Slaves in Cuba, and asks that his period of leave be extended for two months. (Copy.)
