G.R. Porter, from Paris, to Buxton, 20 Jan 1840
About the excitement thereon the subject of slavery, his own acquaintanceship with de Tocqueville, who led the committee dealing with the subject, the possibility of forming an anti-slave trade society there, and his wish to make use of his visit to Paris by fostering such a scheme. He asks Buxton to send him, through Rawson, another member of the Board of Trade, all the relevant papers and copies of his two volumes for de Tocqueville. (Copy.)
