Priscilla Johnston to Richenda Buxton, about the work she had done in improving the book in proof, its return to Edward the previous day, her anxiety about what Buxton would think of her changes, and suggesting Andrew's text for the chapter on the 'Elevation of Native Mind', 19 Dec 1839 [wrongly dated 1840]
She reports that Palmerston had married and was distracted from attending to the matter of Fernando Po (Bioko) and that the publication of the book would have to await the assembly of Parliament. She explains that in all her work on the book, she had tried to bear in mind what Buxton intended and that she thought he would not be displeased at what they had done. Finally, she refers to the help Betty Mayow gave her as a secretary until her departure for Earlham that day. (Copy.)
