Buxton to Edward Buxton, from Sens, describing the journey from Boulogne to Paris, a city that he had not enjoyed much because he was not feeling well, 24 Nov 1839
He also describes the morning service they had concocted for themselves that day, following Priscilla's instructions, and his visits to the Louvre with Fowell and to the British Ambassador, who told him of the progress in anti-slavery sentiment there because of a trial in Guadeloupe, which revealed some of the abuses of the system. He asks Edward to inform the Anti-Slavery Society that they would find details of the trial in Le Semeur. He mentions those who called on them in Paris, Baron and Baroness Pelet and M. Grand Pierre and his own refusal to stay in Paris for a fortnight to give lectures because of his execrable French. He expresses regret at Catherine's indisposition, suspecting that the disturbance he had caused while staying with them had caused it. He mentions that the collar of their dog had been stolen at an inn where they stopped to have dinner on the Saturday evening. He commends the efficiency of Anna in directing them to their present inn, where they had spent a quiet Sunday, intending to depart early the following morning. (Copy.)
