Thomas Pyne to the Bishop of Winchester, about his current employment as curate in the parish of Tooting, and the agreement that he should, in the summer, act as travelling tutor to the African princes so as to encourage them to introduce Christianity to their people, establish trade with Africa instead of the slave trade, and promote justice and security of property there, 17 Dec 1839
He hoped that his tour of England with them would be a kind of mission to arouse interest in spreading the gospel in areas not normally open to missionary agents. (Copy.)
