Buxton to Palmerston, about his satisfaction at learning of the hope they had of securing Fernando Po (Bioko) and the need, upon its cession, to prevent the company to which the British Government had assigned its interest from obtaining a seemingly legitimate cession of soil from the indigenous peoples, 28 Oct 1839
Explaining that on leaving for Italy on 14 Nov, he would be travelling with an invalid, Anna Gurney, he asks Palmerston if he could help him travel more easily by providing him with a despatch to Aubyn and grant permission for him to use the official bag for the receipt and return of papers on the slave trade, otherwise it would cost him a fortune. He also requests an interview to learn what he wanted him to say to the Pope. (Copy.)
