She was about to play skittles with the young Africans at Northrepps and believed they had been sent to them for a purpose. She describes the interest Edward Hoare was taking in them and the way she had prepared him for their arrival by reading him her paper on the treatment of Africans to emphasise the importance of approaching the boys gently.
