He had sent them that day to learn twine-spinning and ropemaking and hints that he needed to discuss with Buxton how long they would be staying. His wife intended to leave on Saturday to visit the Buxtons when the Aldertons would help to look after the Africans who planned to stay in England for a further eight months. He thought they should spend that time not at school but with a tutor and suggests the government be approached to increase their allowance for that purpose and the Church Missionary Society asked to send a missionary back with them as their tutor, possibly Owen who had formerly been with Dingaan. Believing that their country would be a good location for a mission, he proposes that they could be involved in developing a grammar of their language.
