Buxton to Lord Normanby, outlining the compromise plan that he intended to adopt, urging him not to allow any consideration to interfere with the expedition leaving in the autumn, equipped with a suitable steamer and the right people to negotiate with the chiefs and acquire information, 18 Jul 1839
He asks him to name a day and time when a deputation could be received by him, and possibly by Palmerston and Minto as well, to hear the proposals for present action that they had drawn up. He refers to the information provided to Lushington by Normanby and urges that his own corrections be incorporated in a properly drawn up list of instructions by Bandinel. (Copy.)
