- Anna Gurney to Priscilla Johnston, about the publication of Buxton's book the previous Monday, his distribution of about thirty copies, some of them to the Patrons of Africa, whom he met [at Lushington's house]. She writes of Sir Thomas Acland's praise, and the adoption of the cause by the Tories, which pleased Buxton as he had been told by Normanby that there would be a dissolution at the end of the session. She records a deputation from the African Party to Normanby and Palmerston to urge the implementation of Buxton's scheme and the delayed sending of an offer for Fernando Po (Bioko). Since Buxton had not yet read their section on education, they had been in time [to make some alterations?]. Finally, she mentions Buxton's cheerful report on Hannah's health (copy), 27 Jun 1839.
