John Dyer to Buxton, about the desire expressed in Jamaica that one European missionary should accompany the venture to West Africa accompanied by two or three Black Christians and his own belief that a white missionary could be found willing to go, 3 Apr 1839
He inquires whether there was an area reasonably safe for these missionaries, regarding climate for the white missionary and freedom from enslavement, for the Black missionaries, whether communications would be established with a settlement in the interior and a means of transporting supplies, whether there would be language difficulties, given the many languages in that part of Africa, and whether the Black missionaries would be able to continue the mission work if their white leader died.
